Greek club OFI Crete FC have appointed Giorgos Firos as head coach following Zdenek Šcasný's resignation.

Six-month contract
Firos has been out of work since resigning from FC Aris Thessaloniki during the close season. He has signed a six-month contract with the option of a one-year extension.

Xanthi defeat
He replaces Czech coach Zdenek Šcasný, who resigned in the wake of a 2-1 home defeat by Xanthi FC on Sunday, despite the club holding seventh place in the 16-team league.

'I made mistakes'
Šcasný said on Wednesday: "I do not want to comment on the reasons that led me to resign. It was something I had thought about for some time, but after the defeat by Xanthi a voice inside told me it was time to go. I tried to do my best, but I acknowledge that I made mistakes."
