Leaders Arsenal FC produced a dominant display to win 4-1 at Leeds United AFC and preserve their one-point advantage at the top of the Premiership.

Tight at the top
Arsène Wenger's side began the day on 24 points, one above Chelsea FC and two ahead of Manchester United FC. Birmingham City FC, fourth at kick-off, take on Charlton Athletic FC on Monday night.

Early advantage
The visitors were quickly into their stride at Elland Road, taking the lead in the eighth minute as Ashley Cole's long pass sent Thierry Henry clear and the French international forward kept his composure to put Arsenal in front.

First-half dominance
It was 0-2 nine minutes later when Fredrik Ljungberg's cross was turned in by Robert Pires at the far post. The game was effectively over as a contest eleven minutes before half-time, as Dennis Bergkamp's shot rebounded off a post and Henry was on hand to score his second and Arsenal's third. Gilberto added a fourth early in the second period, with Alan Smith scoring a consolation goal for the home side.

Mutu magic
Adrian Mutu's fifth league goal of the season gave Chelsea FC the points at Goodison Park against Everton FC, the Romanian striker heading in Geremi's cross four minutes into the second half to keep Claudio Ranieri's side second.

Decisive late strikes
Diego Forlán gave Manchester United the lead at home to Portsmouth FC, opening the scoring for Sir Alex Ferguson's team seven minutes before the interval from Ryan Giggs's cross. Late goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Roy Keane completed a 3-0 victory for the home side.

City climb the table
Robbie Fowler gave Manchester City FC an early lead at Southampton FC, picking the ball up 30 metres from goal and cutting inside before scoring with a powerful left-foot shot. Paulo Wanchope scored a late second.

Bolton boost
Bolton Wanderers FC took the lead at Tottenham Hotspur FC midway thrugh the second half, as Jay-Jay Okocha's shot was parried by Tottenham goalkeeper Kasey Keller and Kevin Nolan was perfectly-placed to score from close range.

Middlesbrough win
Gaizka Mendieta's first league goal of the season, a powerful strike from distance, gave Middlesbrough FC a 73rd-minute lead at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Juninho scored a second ten minutes later, with the visitors losing Alex Rae to a late red card.

Villa hold firm
Aston Villa FC took the lead at Newcastle United FC after eleven minutes as Dion Dublin headed in from Gareth Barry's corner, but the home side levelled on the stroke of half-time as Villa failed to clear and Laurent Robert scored from the edge of the penalty area. The visitors subsequently had Gavin McCann sent off for a second booking but still earned a draw, with Thomas Sørensen saving Alan Shearer's late penalty.

Sunday games
Fulham FC will be looking to continue their impressive start to the season at home to Liverpool FC on Sunday afternoon, while bottom side Leicester City FC face another struggling team, Blackburn Rovers FC.
