Olympique Lyonnais suffered their first Ligue 1 defeat in three months, going down 3-1 at Stade Rennais FC.

Olympique Lyonnais missed the opportunity to temporarily move top of Ligue 1 when they suffered a 3-1 defeat at Stade Rennais FC early on Saturday.

Unbeaten run
The French champions had the chance to join leaders AS Monaco FC on 33 points, with Dider Deschamps' side travelling to FC Nantes Atlantique later in the evening. However, two own goals and the dismissal of midfield player Mahamadou Diarra shortly before half-time led to the end of Lyon's three-month unbeaten run in the league.

Malouda finds the net
The visitors seemed to be on course for a routine win as they took the lead midway through the first half, Florent Malouda converting after good work from Sidney Govou down the right.

Own goals
However, the lead lasted only three minutes, the home side quickly levelling through Anthony Reveillère's own goal as the Lyon defender tried to clear a Dominique Arribagé effort. It got even worse for the away team six minutes before half-time as Alexander Frei's shot hit the crossbar and rebounded into the net off goalkeeper Nicolas Puydebois.

Frei finish
Lyon were forced to play the whole of the second half with ten men after Diarra was sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession, and Frei sealed the points 16 minutes from time with a close-range finish.

Six-point chance
Monaco will move six points clear with a win at Nantes, while third meets fourth on Sunday night when Olympique de Marseille take on Paris Saint-Germain FC.
