Martins magic fuels Inter revival

Solo effort
Fabio Cannavaro opened the scoring with a stunning
25-metre drive on 33 minutes but the pick of the goals was a wonderful solo effort from Obafemi Martins, who beat four Reggina defenders before drilling the ball low into the corner. Second-half goals from Andy van der Meyde, Francisco Farinos, Julio Ricardo Cruz and Christian Vieri completed the victory, which lifted Inter into fourth position.

Nedved inspiration
The top three, still undefeated, each added three more points to their respective tallies with comfortable victories. Juventus FC are still two points clear at the summit after goals from David Trezeguet and the inspirational Pavel Nedved saw off Modena FC at the Alberto Braglia. Trezeguet's opener came from a quickly-taken free-kick and Nedved sealed the win by cutting in from the left and beating Marco Ballotta from 25 metres.

Shevchenko double
Two goals from Andriy Shevchenko ensured AC Milan defeated AC Chievo Verona 2-0 on Sunday evening, moving Carlo Ancelotti's team back on level terms with AS Roma, who put four goals past Bologna FC without reply earlier in the day. Francesco Totti's magical left-foot volley opened the scoring in the Renato Dall'Ara and further goals from Vincenzo Montella, Christian Panucci and Antonio Cassano completed the rout.

Hard-fought affair
Roma's city rivals S.S. Lazio moved up to fifth with a hard-fought 3-1 win against AC Perugia - but the game at the Stadio Olimpico was marred by four red cards. A
well-contested game came to life when Dejan Stankovic lashed the home side into the lead on the stroke of half-time, but a fiery second half was to follow. Seconds after Fabio Grosso had equalised for the visitors on the hour, they had Souleymane Diamoutene dismissed for a rash challenge.

Red mist
Diamoutene's team-mate Giovanni Ignoffo and Lazio's Sérgio Conceição were shown red cards for violent conduct with the scores still level six minutes from time, before Bernardo Corradi sensationally put Lazio ahead. As tempers flared yet further, Perugia's Marco Di Lorento was the next to receive his marching orders before Simone Inzaghi sealed the points with a delightful chip at the death.

Parma slip
Parma AC slipped to sixth after losing 1-0 to Empoli FC at the Carlo Castellani, where Pasquale Foggia scored the only goal deep into added time. Elsewhere, Ancona Calcio drew 1-1 with Brescia Calcio, a scoreline mirrored by Udinese Calcio and AC Siena at the Friuli. Meanwhile, US Lecce and UC Sampdoria played out a goalless draw.
