SK Slavia Praha have sacked coach Miroslav Beránek after a disappointing first half of the season.
Article body
Unimpressive record
Beránek arrived at Slavia late in 2001, and at the end of his first season led the Czech Republic to victory at the 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. However, his record with the capital club has been less impressive.
European disappointments
Under his leadership, the Prague side twice failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and they are currently nine points behind First Division leaders FC Baník Ostrava, in fourth place in the title race. Slavia's early exit from the UEFA Cup was another setback.
Likely replacement
Slavia director Vladimir Leska said he would be contacting FC Slovan Liberec's assistant coach Josef Csaplár about the vacant position. This is the ninth change of coach in the top flight this season.
