Injury problems
The 24-year-old striker, who plays for FC Krylya Sovetov Samara in Russia, expressed his surprise on receiving the award for the first time. "I didn't think this season was too successful for
me," he said. "I was injured for quite a while. When I recovered from one injury, I sustained another and that lasted for the whole season."
Poll winner
In 2003 Poškus, who came second in the poll in 2002, scored three times for Krylya Sovetov in the Russian Premier-Liga, and played for Lithuania in three UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifiers. He topped the voting with 314 points, holding off Edgaras Jankauskas of FC Porto and Tomas Razanauskas of Akratitos FC in Greece.
