Venue agreed for Besiktas-Chelsea

Cases

Gelsenskirchen hosts Besiktas JK's next UEFA Champions League tie, and Rotterdam a UEFA Cup match.

The UEFA Champions League Group G match between Turkey's Besiktas JK and English side Chelsea FC on Tuesday 9 December will be played at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany (kick-off at 20.45CET), subject to a final decision to be taken imminently by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.

Maccabi switch
In another change of venue in the wake of recent events in Turkey, UEFA also announced today that the rescheduled UEFA Cup second-round second leg between Israel's Maccabi Haifa FC and Spanish opponents Valencia CF – originally scheduled to be played in Izmir, Turkey on 27 November - will take place at the Sparta Stadium in Rotterdam on Thursday 11 December (kick-off at 20.00CET). The first leg ended in a goalless draw.

Final venue
The Arena AufSchalke is one of Europe's newest venues, and will stage the final of this season's Champions League on 26 May next year.

Security issues
Last week, UEFA decided to move forthcoming European club competition matches out of Turkey, following terrorist attacks in Istanbul last month. The decision followed a comprehensive examination of security issues, and was also taken on advice offered by a variety of governments. Maccabi were due to play their UEFA Cup game in Turkey because Israeli teams are unable to play home matches on Israeli territory for the time being.

Galatasaray-Juventus
The first consequence of UEFA's decision regarding matches in Turkey is that the Champions League Group D match between Turkish club Galatasaray SK and Italy's Juventus FC, postponed from 25 November, will be played tonight at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, Germany.
