Reigning French champions Olympique Lyonnais held on to second place in Ligue 1 after a late equaliser earned a 1-1 home draw against Paris Saint-Germain FC.
Pauleta goal
PSG only trailed second-placed Lyon on goal difference at the start of both teams' last game of 2003, and the capital side went ahead on 40 minutes through Pauleta. The goal on the counterattack was his ninth of the season.
Carrière equalises
Lyon then took control of play against a side they had beaten at home ten matches running, but fine goalkeeping from Jérôme Alonzo meant it took until the 84th minute for substitute Eric Carrière to level matters.
Seven-point gap
Both teams are now seven points behind AS Monaco FC, who end their year on Saturday at Stade Rennais FC. FC Sochaux Montbéliard, meanwhile can move up to second ahead of Lyon and PSG if they beat lowly Le Mans UC 72.
