Mallorca suffered a 2-0 defeat at second division Levante UD, striker David Aganzo scoring both goals of the game to put the Valencia side into the last 16. Basque giantkillers SD Eibar's tie against Racing, meanwhile, went down to the wire with neither side managing to find the net after 120 minutes of play before Racing lost 3-2 on penalties.
Zaragoza struggle
Real Zaragoza surrendered a two-goal lead against UD Salamanca before winning out in extra time. David Villa and Iñaki gave the Maños a 2-0 lead but, after Jordi Ferrón was sent off, Salamanca hit back through Raúl Gañan and Tuni. Luciano Galletti won the match for Zaragoza with a goal on 118 minutes.
Salva saves Málaga
Málaga CF had to wait until the 72nd minute to resolve their match at Xerez CD, Salva Ballesta scoring the only goal from the penalty spot. The 2002 winners RC Deportivo La Coruña, meanwhile, overcame RS Gimnástica Torrelavega 2-1.
Last-gasp winner
Elsewhere, CA Osasuna went through 2-1 after a nail-biting tie against Segunda División side Cádiz CF. Valencia CF eliminated Real Murcia CF 2-0 while Real Betis Balompié enjoyed a comfortable 3-1 win against Andalusian rivals Córdoba CF.
Barcelona rout
FC Barcelona romped home to a 4-0 win at Ciudad de Murcia to progress to the next round. Finally, a Julio Baptista strike on 12 minutes was enough to see Sevilla FC past UD Lanzarote.
