SC Freiburg coach Volker Finke has extended his contract by another year, making him the longest-serving coach in the Bundesliga.
Rolling contract
For the past two years Finke has had a rolling contract with Freiburg, an informal agreement whereby a further 12 months is added to the deal each December. Next summer he will begin his 14th season at Freiburg, bringing him come closer to Otto Rehhagel's record stay with SV Werder Bremen which lasted 14 years.
Two relegations
Finke has been in charge of the south German side since 1991 and is renowned for his work with young players. Twice he has suffered relegation, only to return the club to the top flight the following season.
Finke ambition
Freiburg are presently tenth in the Bundesliga and after Tuesday's 6-0 home defeat by FC Bayern München, the coach said: "There have been six or seven positional changes in the team. I want to build a team which has enough potential to stay in the league for more than a year."
