Elisha Levy has resigned as coach of Israeli Premier League side FC Ashdod after a poor run of form.

Elisha Levy has resigned as coach of Israeli Premier League side FC Ashdod following a 5-3 defeat at home by bottom side Maccabi Nazareth FC.

Emotional decision
Levy has been in charge since the 2000/01 season, and announced his decision to his players in an emotional dressing room after the loss, largely caused by a 14-minute four-goal burst from Assi Tubi. Ashdod go into the winter break without a win in seven games, and currently lie eighth.

'Elisha is not to blame'
Explaining his decision, Levy said: "Someone had to take responsibility for our recent results and this person is me." Ashdod's owner Jackie Ben Zaken added: "Elisha is not to blame for the situation as he deserves a lot more credit. But, as he informed me of his decision all I am left to do is accept it."
