The 43-year-old Geiger, who won 112 caps for his country, had been in charge of FC Aarau but could not resist the chance to return to the club he represented as a player until 1996 and then as a youth team coach.
All change
Geiger has signed a one-year contract. He is not the only new face at the Swiss champions, with another former international Jean-Paul Brigger recently appointed as club manager.
