AC Milan set up an intriguing Italian Cup quarter-final meeting with AS Roma, after completing a 2-0 aggregate win over UC Sampdoria on Thursday.
Final repeat
Milan and Roma currently fill the top two slots in Serie A and met in the final of last season's Italian Cup, which Milan won 6-3 on aggregate. Milan, who beat Sampdoria 1-0 in the first leg, broke the deadlock in the 13th minute at the San Siro when Filippo Inzaghi scuffed a Kakha Kaladze cross across the line.
Wall of red-and-black
Sampdoria pressed forward in the second half, but repeatedly ran into a wall of red-and-black shirts, coming closest to scoring a minute from the end when reserve goalkeeper Valerio Fiori palmed Corrado Colombo's header round the post.
Del Piero beats offside trap
Milan were joined in the last eight by Juventus FC, who beat AC Siena 2-1 to complete a 4-2 win on aggregate. Juve took the lead just before half-time when Alessandro Del Piero beat the offside trap and slid the ball under keeper Marco Fortin.
Camoranesi goal
Italian international midfielder Mauro Camoranesi fired in Juventus's second goal from the edge of the area in the 52nd minute. Igor Tudor then handled in the area, allowing Siena striker Nicola Ventola to pull one back from the penalty spot, but the visitors never looked capable of closing the deficit.
Perugia through
In the last eight Juventus will face AC Perugia, who eliminated AC Chievo Verona on Tuesday. Elsewhere, Udinese Calcio followed up their 1-0 first-leg win over Bologna FC with a 3-0 second-leg victory thanks to goals by Carsten Jancker and Alessandro Pierini and a Marek Jankulovski penalty.
