Hannover 96's Altin Lala will be out until late February as he undergoes surgery on a long-term injury.

Hannover 96 captain Altin Lala's frustrating season has been dealt a further blow with news that he will have to undergo surgery on his pubic bone and is unlikely to return until late February.

'No improvement'
The Albanian international has played a key role for the Bundesliga side since joining in 1998 but has made just three appearances this season as he underwent a course of rehabilitation measures. "I tried everything to get this injury away without surgery," said the 28-year-old midfield player. "But there has been no improvement. Now I have no other choice."

Poor run
Despite a promising start to the season, Hannover are currently languishing in eleventh place in the Bundesliga table, having won just two of their last eleven matches and were eliminated from the DfB-Pokal by lower-league side TSV Eintracht Braunschweig.
