Article body
Mateja Kezman scored four goals to power PSV Eindhoven to a 7-0 drubbing of FC Volendam in the Dutch First Division at the weekend.
Ajax postponement
PSV consequently moved to within a point of leaders AFC Ajax, whose match at Roda JC on Friday was postponed following the death of the home team’s chairman, Theo Pickee. Kezman gave his team the lead after 12 minutes and struck again with three goals in eight minutes early in the second half. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored twice and John de Jong was also on target.
Chance wasted
PSV, who travel to Spain to face RC Deportivo de La Coruña in the final UEFA Champions League Group C match on Wednesday, now have 33 points, four more than third-placed AZ Alkmaar. Alkmaar wasted the chance to put pressure on the leaders when they suffered a 1-0 reverse at ten-man RBC Roosendaal on Sunday. Edwin de Graaf settled the match for the hosts with a header in the 63rd minute.
Easy win
Fourth-placed Feyenoord moved to within two points of Alkmaar as they eased past relegation strugglers ADO Den Haag 4-1. Despite suffering an early setback when they fell behind to a Cedric van der Gun header after 14 minutes, Robin van Persie levelled ten minutes later and Kees van Wonderen put his team ahead in first-half added time. Van Persie's second and a powerful shot from Sebastian Pardo had effectively finished off proceedings by the 58th minute.
Two for Sibon
SC Heerenveen moved into sixth with a 3-2 victory at NAC Breda with Gerald Sibon striking twice in the opening 15 minutes. A Ronnie Venema own goal levelled the encounter in the seventh minute but Paul de Lange’s goal on the cusp of half-time proved the decisive strike and made Arne Slot’s last-minute consolation irrelevant.
Keller opener
FC Utrecht went fifth after dispatching Willem II 2-0 in Tilburg. Sander Keller opened the scoring on the hour with a header and 12 minutes later striker Hans van der Haar clinched the away team's sixth win of the season with a brilliant chip over goalkeeper Geert de Vlieger.
Zwolle adrift
Elsewhere, FC Zwolle are still four points adrift at the bottom of the table after a 5-2 defeat by SBV Vitesse, for whom Nicky Hofs scored twice while NEC Nijmegen were held to a 1-1 draw at home by RKC Waalwijk.
