Mahdavikia happy in Hamburg

Asian Player of the Year Mehdi Mahdavikia has signed a new contract with Hamburger SV until summer 2007.

All sides delighted
The 26-year-old agreed a deal with the club last night and Asia's Player of the Year was only too happy to put pen to paper. "I am pleased that things have worked out well," he said. "My family feels very settled in Hamburg."

On the up
Hamburg sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer said: "We are delighted that Mehdi has decided to stay. We have succeeded in keeping a player of international class on a long-term basis. It is a sign that we are still improving." Hamburg, surprisingly eliminated in the first round of this season's UEFA Cup, are ninth in the Bundesliga.
