AZ Alkmaar have signed Dutch international Denny Landzaat - a move the 27-year-old hopes will help boost his prospects of a place at UEFA EURO 2004™.
Contract until 2007
The midfield player joins the third-placed side in the Eredivisie from Willem II and has signed a contract that runs until summer 2007. After undergoing a medical, the move was completed this morning.
International hopes
Landzaat has been capped six times by the Netherlands and is hopeful he may yet be on the plane to Portugal this summer. "That is always a target," he said. "Of course it would be beautiful if I could experience the [UEFA] European Championship in Portugal."
'We are ambitious'
Alkmaar hope to have Landzaat in their squad for Friday's game against ADO Den Haag. "The signing of Denny absolutely adds value to the AZ squad," said the Alkmaar technical manager, Martin van Geel. "We are ambitious and Denny fits in very well."
Adriaanse reunion
Landzaat began his career at AFC Ajax and after a spell with MVV Maastricht, he joined Willem in 1999. At Alkmaar he will be reunited with his former coach at Willem, Co Adriaanse.
