Article body
Argument with coach
Following an argument with Austria coach Joachim Löw last October, the 23-year-old was told he was surplus to requirements at the Franz Horr stadium and was ordered to train on his own.
'Chapter is closed'
"The Austria Wien chapter is closed for me," Scharner said. "I joined them in 1996 and after serving them for so long I didn't deserve to be treated this way. However, I owe the club a lot, because I made it into the national team, won the championship and even the [domestic] treble."
Salzburg boost
The acquisition of Scharner will give new Salzburg coach Walter Hörmann fresh hope of steering the club away from relegation danger. Salzburg are currently third from bottom in the ten-team Austrian Bundesliga, six points ahead of bottom club FC Kärnten.
