Toda, a defensive midfield player, started all four of Japan's games in the 2002 FIFA World Cup but has lost his place since Zico took over as national coach. The 26-year-old arrives in the Netherlands from Tottenham Hotspur FC, where he became only the second Japanese player to appear in the English Premiership.
Big name
"In Japan, Toda is a very popular player, especially because of his strong performance in the World Cup," Den Haag general manager Robert Langenbach said. "We are proud of the fact that such a famous international player has chosen to play for our club."
On the move
Meanwhile, midfield player Arjan van der Laan has left Den Haag for FC Dordrecht on loan. Den Haag are 16th in the Dutch first division and face Roda JC at the Zuiderparkstadion on Wednesday.
