Extra protection for Fulham

Members

Fulham FC have added to their defensive options by signing Moritz Volz and agreeing a deal for Ian Pearce.

Melville leaving
German full-back Volz had been loaned to Fulham in the summer by Arsenal FC but has now secured a permanent switch taking him up to 2007. Pearce will move across London from first division side West Ham United FC, with Fulham's veteran Welsh international defender Andy Melville travelling in the opposite direction, subject to a medical.

Coleman happy
Volz joined Arsenal from FC Schalke 04 in June 1999. Speaking to his club's website, Fulham manager Chris Coleman said: "He is still very young but shows great maturity on the pitch and I know he will continue to work hard to develop."

Lots of experience
The 29-year-old Pearce, a former England Under-21 international, has plenty of Premiership experience with West Ham and Blackburn Rovers FC. Melville, 35, has made nearly 800 first-class appearances and had been with Fulham since 1999.
