AFC Ajax have continued their tradition of investing in youth by signing 17-year-old Swede Måns Sörensson from Landskrona BoIS on a six-month trial.
Phenomenal record
Sörensson made his senior debut for Landskrona as a substitute in the match against AIK Solna last October but although he has not played since, his record at youth international level is phenomenal. The striker, who will begin his trial with coach Ronald Koeman's team on Tuesday, has scored 18 goals in 19 games in Sweden's colours.
Striker secured
Ryan Babel, meanwhile, a recent product of Ajax's youth development programme, has signed a three-and-a-half year contract which will keep him at the Amsterdam ArenA until June 2007. The 17-year-old forward scored eight goals in ten matches for Danny Blind's youth side in the first half of the season.
Contracts signed
Three 19-year-old graduates to be rewarded with full-time contracts are midfield player Robin Muller van Moppes, winger Etienne Esajas and defender Jerold Promes. They have each signed a two-year deal backdated to 1 July 2003.
Mofokeng released
Finally, despite having 30 months remaining on his contract, Gabriel Mofokeng has been shown the door by Ajax. The 21-year-old South African defender agreed to leave by mutual consent and his contract has been terminated with immediate effect.
