Ankle injury
The Japanese international sustained an ankle injury while playing in a benefit match on Sunday. Meanwhile, it is strongly rumoured that Feyenoord have turned down a bid from Arsenal FC for 20-year-old winger Robin van Persie.

Simons signing
Staying in the Netherlands, ADO Den Haag have signed Regillio Simons in a deal that runs until the end of the season. The 30-year-old Dutchman had been on trial at Den Haag after being released by Japanese side Kyoto Purple Sanga.

Denicola return
Swiss Under-21 international Luca Denicola has returned to Grasshopper-Club early from his loan spell at FC Aarau. The 22-year-old is currently in Qatar with the U21 squad and will now link up with Grasshoppers at their training camp in southern Spain.

Niculescu released
Former Romanian international striker Radu Niculescu has been released by FC Steaua Bucuresti. The 28-year-old, who saw just 23 minutes of league action in the first half of the season, discovered the news as the Steaua squad departed to their mountain training camp. "He had too big a salary and too little efficiency," said coach Victor Piturca. "It was too risky for us to continue the collaboration." Niculescu was in Romania's squads at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups.

Mwila worry
In Sweden, Örgryte IS, who recently agreed a new contract with Brazilian loanee Paulhinho Guará, have been rocked by the news that Guará's first-choice strike partner Boyd Mwila will be out of action for around six weeks. The Zambian international fractured his fibula during training and underwent surgery yesterday. He now faces a race to be fit in time for the new Swedish season.

Cardoso retirement
Finally, Hamburger SV's Argentinian playmaker Rodolfo Cardoso has decided to hang up his boots at the end of the season, but will stay on at the Bundesliga club as their South American scout. Cardoso started his career in Germany back in 1989 with FC Homburg.
