AFC Ajax's Swedish international forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to be out for up to two months.

AFC Ajax striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to be out of action for up to two months after undergoing surgery to cure a persistent groin injury.

Injury worsened
The 22-year-old Swedish international forward has been suffering from the problem for around four months, and opted for surgery over the weekend after the injury worsened.

'Tough without him'
"He decided that he couldn't continue to play with his groin problems," said Ajax coach Ronald Koeman, who said he expected Ibrahimovic to be out of action for between six and eight weeks. "I fully understand his decision, even though it's tough to have to do without him."

Top scorer
Ibrahimovic, Ajax's top scorer this season with eight goals from 13 league games, will spearhead Sweden's challenge at UEFA EURO 2004™. After Wednesday night's 2-1 victory at Roda JC, Koeman's side are top of the Eredivisie with 40 points, three points ahead of PSV Eindhoven.
