Club Brugge KV have released Sandy Martens from his contract to allow the striker to join his former club KAA Gent.

Striking options
The Belgian international's deal at Brugge was due to expire this summer, freeing him up for a transfer away from the Jan Breydelstadion. As the arrival of Croatian international Boško Balaban and Brazilian Victor had forced Martens down the Brugge pecking order, however, coach Trond Sollied was reluctant to keep the 31-year-old at the club against his wishes.

Konnafis arrives
Martens joined Brugge in 1999 and scored 32 goals in 131 matches. He previously spent six seasons with Gent, scoring 39 league goals in 143 games. Martens will be joined at Gent by the Cypriot international defender Petros Konnafis, 24, who was signed today until the end of the season from Anorthosis Famagusta FC with the option for another year.
