Adriano gives Inter the edge

FC Internazionale drew 2-2 at Juventus FC in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final.

Early lead
The Brazilian striker gave Inter the lead at the Stadio Delle Alpi in the third minute, racing on to Alvaro Recoba's chip forward and shooting left-footed past Juventus goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti.

Quick response
Marco Di Vaio equalised three minutes later after Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo miscued a clearance, leaving the Italian international to slide the ball into an empty net.

Second for Adriano
Uncertainty in the Juventus defence allowed Adriano to restore Inter's advantage shortly after the half-hour - heading in from close range for his fourth goal in four days after striking twice in Inter's 4-0 league win against AC Siena.

Chances missed
The visitors went close to extending their lead early in the second half, but Turkish midfield player Okan Buruk was denied by the crossbar and Adriano's effort rebounded off the post.

Di Vaio on target again
In the 64th minute, however, Toldo was sent off for handling the ball outside his area, and his replacement Alex Cordaz could only watch six minutes later when Di Vaio collected Ciro Ferrara's through-ball and shot into the roof of the net.

Inter hold on
In the final minutes, Juventus coach Marcello Lippi sent on midfield player Pavel Nedved and striker Alessandro Del Piero in an attempt to find the winner, but Inter held on to carry the 2-2 scoreline into the second leg on 12 February.

Second semi-final
The first leg of the second semi-final is played on Thursday night, with holders and Serie A leaders AC Milan facing S.S. Lazio at the San Siro.
