Thiago, whose full name is Anderson Thiago de Souza, is a friend of Dortmund's on-loan midfield player Flavio Conceição and impressed coach Matthias Sammer during the club's winter training camp in Marbella.
Contract until 2005
He has agreed a contract until June 2005, although the club have the option to extend his deal beyond that. Thiago, who becomes the seventh Brazilian on Dortmund's books, previously played for União São João, a club from Araras in the south-east of Brazil where Roberto Carlos began his career.
Close call
Reine, meanwhile, has joined relegation-threatened Hertha, after completing a deal just 90 minutes before the transfer deadline. The 31-year-old joined Dortmund in 1999 from DSC Arminia Bielefeld but failed to win a regular starting place.
