Rizespor coach Hikmet Karaman has resigned following fans' abuse during this weekend's 2-1 defeat at home by Denizlispor.
'Significant effort'
Karaman, who was previously in charge of Kocaelispor, handed his resignation to club president Ekrem Cengiz, with his side 15th in the Turkish Super League. Karaman defended his team, saying: "Our team was not performing that badly, we have advanced into the [Turkish Cup] quarter-finals by beating Galatasaray SK 5-0. Yes, the team lost to Denizlispor but there was a significant effort shown."
Coach's frustration
He added: "The fans do not applaud these efforts, instead they swear at you. For this reason I am leaving the job. I think an injection of fresh blood into the team may be useful."
