Article body
Everton FC will be without Li Tie for the rest of the season after the midfield player broke his leg while on international duty with China.
Accidental collision
The 26-year-old fractured his right leg in a collision with team-mate Yang Pu as China prepared for Wednesday's FIFA World Cup qualifier with Kuwait.
'Out for the season'
"Obviously, when you're halfway around the world you never get quite the communication you'd expect but by all accounts Li Tie has broken his leg which rules him out for the rest of the season," Everton manager David Moyes told the club's website. Everton's medical team contacted Li Tie on Wednesday and were told scans had shown a break that requires a plaster cast. He is expected to stay in China to start his rehabilitation before returning to Everton towards the end of the season.
Reinhard promoted
Eintracht Frankfurt have handed 18-year-old defender Christopher Reinhard a two-year professional contract, starting on 1 July. Reinhard currently plays for the club's under-19 outfit and follows another promising young player, Marco Russ, who agreed a three-year deal on Tuesday.
Chris contract
Meanwhile, Eintracht chairman Heribert Bruchhagen has announced that the club have decided to take up an option on Brazilian defender Chris, who will be at the club until 2007. The 25-year-old joined the club from third division outfit FC St. Pauli in the summer and has made 14 appearances.
Deal extended
Sevilla FC have extended the contract of striker Antoñito Ramiro by three years until 30 June 2008 with the option of an extra year. The 26-year-old, who rose through Sevilla's youth ranks and has spent most of his career with the club, has had his buy-out clause increased to €36m from €12m.
Muscle tear
PFC CSKA Sofia's Brazilian central defender Joao Carlos suffered a torn thigh muscle in training and will be out of action for at least three weeks. The 22-year-old will miss the important February league games against fellow title contenders PFC Slavia Sofia and PFC Litex Lovech.
Broken jaw
Belgian side RSC Anderlecht are likely to be without
Ki-Hyeon Seol for several weeks after the Korean forward broke his jaw-bone. Seol sustained the injury in a collision with team-mate Ahn Jung-Hwan in the World Cup qualifier with Lebanon, and is likely to be sidelined for three to four weeks.
Dzajic delight
Dragan Dzajic has been re-elected as president of FK Crvena zvezda for the next five years. Dzajic, who enjoyed a successful playing career with Crvena zvezda and French side SC Bastia, was first elected to the post in 1998, and said: "I thought it may be time for my to retire. But I decided to stay, and the club is my life. Crvena zvezda made me famous and over the years I am trying to pay back the debt."
Five-day suspensions
Finally, Leeds United AFC and FC Basel 1893 will be without Mark Viduka and Scott Chipperfield respectively for five days. The two players failed to travel to Australia's friendly with Venezuela on Wednesday, and the Australian Soccer Association opted to invoke FIFA rules to prevent the two from playing at the weekend. Viduka is therefore ruled out of Leeds' Premiership game with Manchester United FC, while Chipperfiled will sit out the game with Grasshopper-Club.
