Ryf comes to grief at Xamax

Members

Claude Ryf has been dismissed as coach of Swiss side Neuchâtel Xamax FC after ten games without a win.

Dismal run
Club president Gilbert Facchinetti announced the decision to sack the 47-year-old coach after Xamax's 2-0 defeat against FC Wil 1900 at the weekend. Xamax have slipped from fourth to tenth place in the table since 14 September after picking up just two points in their last ten games.

'We had to act'
"He did not have enough success," said Facchinetti of Ryf. "We had to act as we don't want to go down to the Challenge League." Ryf, who was capped 13 times by Switzerland as a player, has been at the Maladière stadium since summer 2002 when he replaced current Grasshopper-Club coach Alain Geiger.
