Article body
Sublime lob
The Serbo-Montenegrin international striker broke the deadlock in the dying stages when he beat Twente goalkeeper Cees Paauwe with a superb lob for his 16th strike of the season. Ajax, however, responded by edging out FC Volendam 2-0 away on Sunday and remain three points clear at the summit.
Penalty winner
Ioannis Anastasiou put the Amsterdam side ahead in the 12th minute but they looked to be heading for an unconvincing 1-0 win, before Gijs Luirink's dismissal four minutes from time. Tomáš Galásek converted the resultant penalty to seal his team's 17th win of the campaign.
Deserved point
Lowly ADO Den Haag took a shock lead against fourth-placed Feyenoord when Romeo Castelen struck after 19 minutes. Robin van Persie equalised for the visitors in the 37th minute but Feyenoord were down to ten men when Christian Gyan was sent off. Thomas Buffel's close-range shot eased the pressure before Cedric van der Gun earned the home side a deserved point seven minutes from time.
Niedzielan double
NEC Nijmegen climbed a spot to 13th with a 4-0 defeat of FC Utrecht, who played the majority of the match a man down following Jean Paul de Jong's second booking in the 22nd minute. Andrzej Niedzielan struck in both halves while Jarda Simr and Björn Van Der Doelen were also on target. Meanwhile, RKC Waalwijk went tenth, easing past basement team FC Zwolle with goals from Khalid Boulahrouz and Rogier Molhoek.
Vital cushion
On Saturday, Tom Caluwé's late equaliser earned fifth-placed Willem II a 1-1 draw against SC Heerenveen while second-from-bottom SBV Vitesse lost 2-1 at home to RBC Roosendaal as efforts from Edwin de Graaf and Danny Hesp provided the necessary cushion to make Paolo Rink's 80th-minute penalty irrelevant. Finally, NAC Breda's match against Roda JC finished goalless.
