The German leaders SV Werder Bremen have agreed a new three-year contract with Ivan Klasnic.

SV Werder Bremen have agreed a new three-year contract with Croatian international forward Ivan Klasnic which will keep him at the German club until 2007.

Negotiations concluded
With Ailton and Mladen Krstajic both leaving for FC Schalke 04 in the summer, runaway Bundesliga leaders Bremen were desperate to keep hold of Klasnic, who made his debut for the Croatian national team against Germany on Wednesday. After weeks of negotiations the striker finally agreed to sign a new contract today.

'Sensible decision'
Bremen's sports director, Klaus Allofs, was delighted to have closed the deal. "Ivan made a sensible decision," he said. "We are happy that he has decided to stay as he has a bright future ahead of him." The 24-year-old Klasnic has made 15 appearances for the club this season, scoring seven goals.
