Article body
RC Deportivo La Coruña missed the chance to increase the pressure on the top two in the Primera División as they were held to a goalless draw at Club Atlético de Madrid in today's early Spanish game.
Four-point gap
Deportivo began the day four points behind leaders Real Madrid CF and two adrift of Valencia CF, who both play later on Saturday. Madrid visit RCD Espanyol and Valencia take on FC Barcelona, while Spain's other two UEFA Champions League contenders are also in action. Real Sociedad de Fútbol go to Sevilla FC, and RC Celta de Vigo play Málaga CF.
Second-half misses
The visitors were on top throughout the game, but were unable to make the most of the chances they did create. The clearest opportunities arrived in the second period, but neither Diego Tristán and Walter Pandiani were able to find the net and Atlético held out for a scoreless draw. Deportivo moved up to 50 points, while the home side climbed to 37 points.
