AS Roma came from behind to keep alive their Serie A title hopes with a 4-1 victory against Claudio Prandelli's Parma AC at the weekend, but AC Milan's 1-0 win kept them top of the pile.
Different story
After falling behind to Alberto Gilardino's 30th-minute volley, Roma regrouped and showed their class on the stroke of half-time with an equaliser from Antonio Cassano, who was fed by Francesco Totti. The second half was a different story as the capital club took control, Olivier Dacourt and Emerson combining well before the latter made it 2-1 and captain Totti putting Roma further ahead with a low free-kick 20 minutes from time. Alessandro Mancini completed the scoring seven minutes later as Roma took their goals tally to ten in their last two Serie A matches.
Juve cruise
Juventus FC remain a point behind Fabio Capello's side after a 3-0 home win against Ancona Calcio. First-half goals from Mauro Camoranesi, Fabrizio Miccoli and Alessandro Del Piero enabled Juve to cruise to victory, but the reigning champions remain six points adrift of leaders Milan, who beat S.S. Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico by virtue of Massimo Ambrosini's solitary 75th-minute goal.
Inter stunned
Milan's city rivals FC Internazionale were stunned at home by Brescia Calcio despite taking a 46th-minute lead through Dejan Stankovic, who was later sent off. Inter's third consecutive Serie A defeat came courtesy of two goals from Andrea Caracciolo either side of a Simone Del Nero header.
Resurgent Empoli
Udinese Calcio remain seventh after losing 2-0 away against Empoli FC. A win for Udinese would have lifted them to within a point of the UEFA Champions League berth occupied by Lazio, but headed goals from Antonio Busce and Sanchez Cribari gave resurgent Empoli their 14th point in eight games. Eighth-placed UC Sampdoria opened up a four-point gap over closest rivals AC Chievo Verona by defeating them 1-0 at the Luigi Ferraris courtesy of Aimo Diana's 47th-minute goal.
Priceless Perugia
Further down the table AC Perugia, who ended their wait for a first Serie A win of the season last weekend, made it two in a row with a 4-2 victory against Bologna FC. Fabrizio Ravanelli was among the goalscorers for Serse Cosmi's UEFA Cup hopefuls. Elsewhere, US Lecce won for the fourth time in five matches to continue their climb up the table, Ernesto Chevanton's penalty securing a 1-0 victory against Modena FC, while Reggina Calcio and AC Siena drew 0-0.
