Emmanuel Adebayor scored a hat-trick and Fernando Morientes struck the other as AS Monaco FC stretched their lead over Olympique Lyonnais with a 4-0 victory against Montpellier Hérault SC.
Superb start
The first half was lacking in excitement, Monaco giving no indication of what was to come. The Ligue 1 leaders started the second half superbly, Adebayor opening the scoring in the 48th minute before Morientes, on loan from Real Madrid CF, doubled Monaco's lead. Adebayor made the points safe in the 56th minute and 20 minutes later completed his hat-trick to restore his side's healthy advantage at the French summit.

The victory was just the tonic Didier Deschamps' side needed ahead of the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout tie against FC Lokomotiv Moskva in the Russian capital on Tuesday. The champions Lyon play Le Mans UC 72 this weekend.
