A header from Andriy Shevchenko an astonishing seven minutes into added time salvaged a draw for Serie A leaders AC Milan in their game against AC Chievo Verona at the San Siro on Sunday.
Pirlo lifeline
Carlo Ancelotti's side had lost just once in 26 league games this season but looked in danger of doubling that statistic when they trailed 2-0 at the 80-minute mark. But Andrea Pirlo pulled a goal back with a curling drive from 30 metres and striker Shevchenko pounced for his 20th league goal of the season at the death. Chievo, who slip to tenth place, had led through goals from Giuseppe Sculli and Simone Perrotta.
Trezeguet double
AS Roma's surprise 2-1 defeat at home against Bologna FC allowed Juventus FC to climb back into second place, still nine points behind Milan, with their 3-1 victory against Modena FC. David Trezeguet was the two-goal hero for Juve, scoring with a header and a powerful right-foot shot after Enzo Maresca had headed the Turin side into the lead. Massimo Marazzina had briefly given the visitors hope before the French striker's second goal put Marcello Lippi's side out of reach.
Roma reeling
Bologna's win - their third in eight days following victories against UC Sampdoria and S.S. Lazio - came at the expense of a Roma side still smarting from their UEFA Cup exit at the hands of Villarreal CF in midweek. Fabio Capello's team fell behind to Fabio Pecchia's close-range effort midway through the first half and although they got back on level terms through Antonio Cassano's 12th league strike of the campaign, Igli Tare was left unmarked in the Roma area to head the winner.
Fourth-place chase
Despite the defeat and slipping out of the top two for the first time since November, Roma are still 13 points clear of the chasing pack, leaving only one UEFA Champions League qualification berth wide open. Lazio remain in pole position by virtue of goal difference after their 2-1 win against AC Perugia, who fell behind to a spectacular Stefano Fiore overhead kick. Roberto Brienza briefly levelled the scores before Giuliano Giannichedda restored the capital club's lead, earning them their first win in five league matches.
Missed penalty
Parma AC and FC Internazionale remain hot on the heels of Lazio after recording victories themselves against Empoli FC and Reggina Calcio respectively. Antonio Di Natale missed a penalty for Empoli before Parma found their feet in a 4-0 home win, Alberto Gilardino scoring twice. Inter's away win, courtesy of an Emiliano Bonazzoli own goal and Adriano's simple finish, kept them a point behind Lazio and Parma in sixth.
Baggio heroics
In the day's other games, Tore André Flo's solitary goal was enough to give AC Siena all three points at home against Udinese Calcio, Cedric Konan's added-time strike gave US Lecce a 2-2 draw at Sampdoria and Brescia Calcio ran out 5-2 winners at home against bottom club Ancona Calcio. Roberto Baggio was twice on target for Giovanni Di Biasi's side, bringing the house down with a sublime chip late on, as he took his tally for the season to nine goals in 19 appearances.
