Bursaspor managed only one league win following Kayihan's appointment as successor to Gheorghe Hagi in November - and Sunday's 1-0 home defeat by Denizlispor left the club in 17th place in the 18-team division. Bursaspor president Fikret Üstenci said in a statement that the team needed "new blood". Former coach Nedzad Bijedic could return to the club as Kayihan's replacement.
