Article body
Jirí Kotrba has been sacked as coach of Czech First Division side AC Sparta Praha following Saturday’s 2-0 league defeat by 1. FC Synot.
Difficult campaign
The 46-year-old replaced Jozef Jarabinský at the helm of the club in December 2002 and led the side to the domestic championship in his first season in charge. But despite negotiating the group stages of the UEFA Champions League and only bowing out to holders AC Milan, domestic form has fallen away this term.
Action taken
A derby victory against SK Slavia Praha two weeks ago appeared to have given Kotrba a reprieve but the loss to Synot, coupled with last week’s goalless draw with FC Slovan Liberec, meant his charges slipped to fourth place in the standings, seven points behind the leaders, and president Vlastimil Kostál decided to take action.
