Polish Ekstraklasa strugglers KP Polonia Warszawa and SPN Widzew Lódz have both appointed new coaches.

KP Polonia Warszawa and SPN Widzew Lódz have become the first two Polish Ekstraklasa sides to change their coaches in 2004 as they both seek to avoid relegation.

Changes at Polonia
Polonia's new owner and main sponsor Jan Raniecki has reacted to a poor start to the spring season by replacing Krzysztof Chrobak with Mieczyslaw Broniszewski, a decision that prompted the resignations of club president Grzegorz Popielarz and sports director Maciej Szczesny. Broniszewski will have his work cut out after his new team lost their Friday derby with Legia Warszawa 7-2 and are eleventh.

Smuda back at Widzew
That is two places, though only one point, above second-bottom Widzew, whose coach is now Franciszek Smuda after Jerzy Kasalik's reign ended. Smuda takes charge for the fourth time, having been the last man to lead a Polish club into the UEFA Champions League group stage when Widzew participated in 1996/97. Kasalik's assistant Tomasz Lapinski will remain at the club.
