Marseille loan
Barthez moved to Olympique de Marseille on a nine-month loan in October, although he was not able to start playing for the French Ligue 1 side until January because the move had not been registered during the transfer window.
Contract termination
"Manchester United have reached agreement with Fabien Barthez to terminate his contract with the club with effect from 30 June 2004," United said in a statement, as they announced a 32 per cent rise in first-half profits.
Barthez replacement
Barthez, 32, joined United in June 2000 for €11.6m but was dropped by manager Sir Alex Ferguson towards the end of last season. He was replaced by American Tim Howard, who arrived from New York/New Jersey MetroStars for €3.4m last summer.
Profits reported
United reported pre-tax profits of €40.1m for the six months to 31 January on a turnover of €138.1m.
