News round-up: Swedish striker Magnus Arvidsson has signed a new contract with FC Hansa Rostock.

Swedish striker Magnus Arvidsson has agreed a two-year contract extension with Bundesliga side FC Hansa Rostock. The 31-year-old forward has been at the club since 1999 and has scored 24 league goals for Hansa in 126 games over four and a half years.

Termination offered
Elsewhere in Germany, BV Borussia Dortmund have offered to terminate the contract of Brazilian striker Marcio Amoroso. Dortmund managing director Michael Meier met the player's representatives after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Hannover 96 to inform them of their wish to release the 29-year-old, who has not played since 27 August.

'Lack of respect'
He has spent the majority of the season in Brazil recovering from a knee operation. "Borussia Dortmund no longer want to be associated with a player who has a total lack of respect for his club," said Meier. "I am sure that the formalities will be sorted out in the next few days."

'Youth product'
In the Netherlands, Willem II have handed midfield player Danny Mathijssen a contract extension until summer 2007. "Mathijssen is a product of our own youth department and has developed very well lately," the club's manager of scouting and technical affairs, Gerard Wielaert, said of the 21-year-old. "He has grown into a regular player in our midfield."

Polish format
Finally, the Polish Football Association (PZPN) has decided to change the format of the Ekstraklasa once again. This change, which will come into force for the 2005/06 season, will involve the expansion of the top flight from 14 to 16 teams. The PZPN also discussed the finer points of a proposed licensing scheme, although no details were released.

Prilasnig signing
Gilbert Prilasnig has finally ended his search for a new employer by signing for English third division side Cambridge United FC, now managed by former Senegal coach Claude Le Roy. The former Austrian international, who won 16 international caps, has been searching for a new club ever since leaving FC Kärnten last summer having previously played for SK Sturm Graz and FC Aris Thessaloniki. "I want to settle in England and hope to help my new team to avoid relegation," said the 31-year-old midfield player after committing himself to Cambridge for the rest of the season.
