Lienen handed Hannover role

Members

Hannover 96 have appointed Ewald Lienen as their new coach following the departure of Ralf Rangnick.

Results needed
Lienen takes over with Hannover languishing in 15th place in the Bundesliga, just one position above the relegation zone. The 50-year-old will lead the team for the first time in Saturday's crucial home match against fellow strugglers 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

'Make the side confident

Another defeat
Hannover president Martin Kind sacked Rangnick on Sunday following the 1-0 defeat by Mönchengladbach, who were Lienen's last club. He had parted company with them after a 2-0 defeat by Hannover in September. Before then, he had spells in charge of 1. FC Köln, FC Hansa Rostock, MSV Duisburg and also CD Tenerife.

Decisive factor
Kind indicated that Lienen's experience in comparable situations was the ley to his appointment. "This was decisive," he said. "He already had success in a relegation struggle with Mönchengladbach."
