Article body
Juve held
Milan's 21st league victory of the season, a 3-1 success against Parma AC, came after defending champions Juventus FC had drawn 0-0 with Udinese Calcio, and before nearest challengers AS Roma saw their derby encounter with S.S. Lazio abandoned.
Tomasson double
Milan warmed up for the home leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against RC Deportivo La Coruña on Tuesday in style, with Jon Dahl Tomasson coming in for the rested Filippo Inzaghi and scoring twice. The Danish striker's first goal was a 33rd-minute header, his second a tap-in following Kaká's dazzling approach play.
Shevchenko strikes
Andriy Shevchenko struck his 19th Serie A goal from Tomasson's assist in the second half and although Alberto Gilardino pulled one back for fifth-placed Parma eight minutes from time, it was too little, too late.
Inter climb
With last week's top six all playing each other, FC Internazionale took advantage to climb above Udinese into sixth spot by virtue of a 2-0 win away against Ancona Calcio. Alvaro Recoba's 20-metre strike was followed by a Daniele Adani header to end Inter's five-match winless streak and condemn Ancona to a record-equalling 28th consecutive game in Serie A without a win.
Rocchi heroics
UC Sampdoria remain in eighth position after a 1-1 draw with Empoli FC, who only secured a share of the spoils thanks to Tommaso Rocchi's leveller in added time. That point meant AC Perugia stay a place behind Empoli in the drop zone despite recording only their third win of the campaign, a 2-1 triumph against US Lecce, on their travels.
Away win
Reggina Calcio were another struggling side to win away, chalking up a 2-1 success of their own against Modena FC. Emiliano Bonazzoli and David Di Michele scored the goals for Reggina, who leapfrogged their opponents with the victory.
Tremendous Tare
Bologna FC, just a point above the drop zone before the weekend, now sit in tenth place after a resounding 3-0 victory against Brescia Calcio. Former Brescia striker Igli Tare opened the scoring with a powerful 40th-minute header before strikes from Carlo Nervo and Giuseppe Signori completed the victory. Elsewhere, AC Chievo Verona and AC Siena drew 1-1.
