Late goals
Bremen's two closest rivals, FC Bayern München and VfB Stuttgart, both drew on Saturday yet it looked as though the leaders would also have to settle for a point at the VfL-Stadion with 75 minutes of the match gone. Ailton had missed a penalty, but goals in the last 15 minutes from Ivan Klasnic and Johan Micoud turned the game in the visitors' favour.
Agostino saviour
In the day's other fixture, Paul Agostino salvaged a draw for struggling TSV 1860 München against SC Freiburg. Soumaila Coulibaly had given the away team a tenth-minute lead but Agostino found the net on the hour to keep TSV two points above the drop zone.
