Nice sack missing Cherrad

Members

OGC Nice have dismissed Algerian striker Abdelmalek Cherrad after the player went missing for a month.

Hiding from pressure
French police believe he may be hiding to avoid pressure from his brothers, and last week the player sent a short message to his friends and fans saying that he and his family were safe. Cherrad played 19 games for Nice this season, scoring three goals, and had a contract with the club until 2007.

Broken contract
"Malek Cherrad has not appeared at training for more than a month and has not kept Nice informed of his intentions, so the club's directors have broken his contract. He is no longer a part of the Nice squad," the club's website stated.

Salary request
"Before vanishing, he asked for his salary to be paid by cheque whereas it is usually transferred to an account shared by his family." Nice chairman Maurice Cohen added: "He's young and I hope one day he will play football again."
