Teplice lose grip on trophy

Czech Cup holders FK Teplice lost at second division FK Vysocina Jihlava in the quarter-finals.

Czech Cup holders FK Teplice bowed out of this season's competition after surprising losing at second division FK Vysocina Jihlava in the quarter-finals.

Out of form
The visitors, who reached the third round of this season's UEFA Cup, currently lie in ninth place in the Czech first division and had not won for six games prior to this match. In contrast, Jihlava had eliminated SK Slavia Praha and FC Viktoria Plzen in previous rounds and secured another top-flight scalp thanks to Karel Vecera's 18th-minute goal.

Sparta success
Former Teplice coach Frantisek Straka could enjoy more cup success, however, as his current club AS Sparta Praha shrugged off the absence of several key players, including captain Karel Poborský, to win 3-1 at FK Marila Príbram.

Zelenka strikes
Lukás Zelenka scored twice and created the other goal for Jan Rezek. Croatian striker Danijel Cesarec - who is on loan from Sparta – scored against his old team-mates but it was not enough for Príbram.

Semi-final lineup
FC Baník Ostrava and FC Slovan Liberec booked their places in the semi-finals last night, and the draw for the last four will take place on Monday.
