Article body
Jan Zurek has resigned as coach of GKS Katowice on a busy day in Poland.
Disappointing defeat
Zurek announced his decision in the wake of a 1-0 defeat by struggling KP Polonia Warszawa last weekend, saying: "Some of the players had no interest in fighting for a result." He will be replaced by his former assistant, Lechoslaw Olsza, who will take temporary charge for the third time.
Wojcik challenge
Elsewhere, former international Janusz Wojcik has taken charge of the Polish First Division's bottom side, MKS Swit Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. Although Wojcik's official title is manager not coach, he will assume responsibility for results and the task of keeping Swit in the top flight.
Szamotulski set free
Swit's weekened draw with KS Amica Wronki also had repercussions at the third-placed club, who have released goalkeeper Grzegorz Szamotulski from his contract. Szamotulski had an argument with coach Stefan Majewski after the game and was promptly banished to the club's reserve side. Instead of appearing in the lower division, he asked to have his contract – which was due to expire in June – terminated. The club agreed to his request.
