Weekend round-up: FC Baník Ostrava need just two points to clinch the Czech league title.

FC Baník Ostrava are close to clinching their first league title since 1981 after defeating FK Teplice 1-0 on Friday thanks to a Miroslav Matusovic penalty five minutes before the final whistle.

Two points needed
The win extended their lead to eight points over SK Slavia Praha, AC Sparta Praha and SK Sigma Olomouc, and with only three rounds to go they need just two points or for their three closest rivals to fail to record maximum points to claim the title. Defending champions Sparta could only manage a goalless draw at 1. FC Brno and Sigma lost their ten-match unbeaten run by losing 3-1 at Slavia, who moved above them into second place.

Boiling point
The championship race came to the boil in Croatia with NK Dinamo Zagreb closing the gap on leaders HNK Hajduk Split to just three points after coming from behind to beat NK Varteks 4-3 on Saturday.

Crunch match
Varteks had dealt Hajduk's title hopes a blow in midweek by holding the top-placed team to a goalless draw, but they collapsed against Zagreb at the weekend despite leading 2-0 early in the game and holding a 3-1 advantage until the 74th minute. Hajduk kept their noses in front with four matches to go with a 3-2 win over NK Zadarkomerc, but must visit Zagreb in a crunch match next weekend.

Sofia derby
PFC Levski Sofia emerged victors from the biggest Bulgarian derby by beating CSKA Sofia with two late goals. Hristo Yanev gave reigning champions CSKA the lead, Temile Omonigo equalised with six minutes to go and - after CSKA's Altin Haci had been sent off - Georgi Chilikov headed in Levski's winner deep into injury time.

Levski move second
The win moved Levski to second place with four rounds to go, five points behind PFC Lokmotiv Plovdiv, who recorded their biggest win of the season, demolishing a PFC Cherno More Varna side fielding only youth players 8-1.

Dinamo drama
FC Dinamo Bucuresti stayed top in Romania, two points ahead of FC Steaua Bucuresti with seven rounds left to be played, after a dramatic 2-1 victory against FC Farul Constanta. A goal behind with eight minutes remaining, Ionel Danciulescu equalised and then won the match from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of added time.

Rapid lose again
Champions FC Rapid Bucuresti, lost their third successive game, 2-0 at FC Brasov, to leave them clinging on to third place, and a possible UEFA Cup spot, by a solitary point.

New leaders

Champions stumble
Brøndby's defeat gave FC København a golden opportunity to take over as league leaders, but the reigning champions stumbled to a 1-1 draw at home against Herfølge BK, and are now a point behind Esbjerg in second place.

TVMK move up
In Estonia, FC Levadia Tallinn allowed FC TVMK Tallinn to move level with them on points after being held to a draw at JK Trans Narva. The second-placed side were frustrated by Viktor Alonen's equalising penalty in the third minute of added time, while TVMK took advantage of their slip by recording a 2-0 victory at JK Merkuur.

Flora hit five
League leaders FC Flora Tallinn maintained their three-point advantage after thrashing JK Tulevik Viljandi 5-1, but have played two more games than Lavdia and TVMK.
