Article body
Fastest goal
Bremen drew with VfB Stuttgart last weekend and had to come from behind on Sunday once Freiburg striker Dennis Kruppke opened the scoring an astonishing 19 seconds into the match. It was the fastest Bundesliga goal of the season and left the leaders with an uphill battle.
Prolific Ailton
Brazilian striker Ailton was once again the hero for the home team, however, volleying an 18th-minute equaliser to take his tally for the campaign to 25 goals in 27 matches and move clear of Real Madrid CF's Ronaldo in the ESM Golden Shoe standings. The draw edged Bremen closer to their first Bundesliga title in eleven years but many supporters are already looking ahead to 8 May, when Thomas Schaaf's side must travel to Bayern for a potential championship decider.
Devastating Dortmund
In the day's other game, BV Borussia Dortmund kept themselves in contention for a place in next season's UEFA Cup with a 4-1 home win against VfL Bochum 1848, which enabled them to climb above their opponents into sixth spot.
Rapid reply
Jan Koller got the home side off to a good start with a ninth-minute opener but Peter Madsen replied for Bochum five minutes later and it was not until Salvatore Gambino's strike on the half-hour mark that Matthias Sammer's men regained the lead. Torsten Frings made it 3-1 on the stroke of half-time and Ewerthon's 53rd-minute penalty rounded off the convincing victory.
