Carlos Carvalhal has taken over at CF Os Belenenses leaving José Couceiro to coach Vitória Setúbal.

Portuguese SuperLiga side CF Os Belenenses have taken coach Carlos Carvalhal from Vitória Setúbal, leaving the newly-promoted side to appoint José Couceiro as his replacement.

'A coach for the future'
Belenenses have brought in Carvalhal on a one-year deal to replace Augusto Inácio, who stepped down at the end of the season after they narrowly avoided relegation. Chairman Sequeira Nunes said: "This is a coach for the future and I think we will have a more attacking style of play with him in charge."

'An honour'
Carvalhal said: "It is an honour for me to guide a club like Belenenses. It is a great club, full of history. I look forward to starting work but it will be a hard task to select the team for the next season. The goalkeeping position is decided but in other positions we will try to improve the team."

Setúbal cuts
With Carvalhal gone, Setúbal have turned to the man that coached relegated FC Alverca last season, Couceiro. The new coach said: "Despite playing in the SuperLiga next year, I know Vitória Setúbal must cut 50 per cent of their budget due to financial problems."

'Great challenge'
He added: "However, I am aware of the risks I will face and I am motivated by the status of the club. [This is] a great challenge and my job is to help Setúbal get back to where they belong, among the greatest Portuguese sides."
