Article body
AS Roma
Exploratory surgery
The 29-year-old was operated on for the second time this season after having exploratory surgery for a cartilage problem in December. With two matches still to play in Serie A, Roma have already finished second and qualified for the next UEFA Champions League group stage.
Home ban
Meanwhile, Roma will have to play next Sunday's final home match of the season against AC Perugia at a neutral venue as a result of crowd disturbances during last weekend's 1-0 defeat at AC Milan. The decision by the Italian Football Federation follows the two-game home ban imposed after the abandoned derby against S.S. Lazio on 21 March.
Benado injury
Arik Benado, the Maccabi Haifa FC captain, hopes to return to action before the end of the season despite fracturing a bone in his hand during the first half of Sunday's 3-1 title-clinching victory over Maccabi Nazareth FC. The 30-year-old, who had the operation on Monday morning, said: "Hopefully I will be back for the final game of the season against Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC [on 22 May]."
Quaresma concern
FC Barcelona have confirmed that Ricardo Quaresma will require an operation on his broken right foot. The Portuguese winger suffered the injury in Sunday's derby against RCD Espanyol and will undergo surgery on Thursday when he will have a screw fitted to the broken metatarsal bone. The injury has ruled the 20-year-old out of the rest of the Primera División season and this month's UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
N'Gotty stays
Bolton Wanderers FC have signed Bruno N'Gotty to a new two-year deal. "I am happy," the 32-year-old French defender said. "I've signed a new deal and I want to stay with Bolton. I want to play in the Premiership. Bolton are on course for their best Premiership finish after their 4-1 defeat of Leeds United AFC on Sunday took them to seventh in the table.
Benjamin out
Hamburger SV midfielder Collin Benjamin will miss the rest of the season because of an injury to his right ankle. The midfield player has flown to Basel where Dr Bernhard Segesser will perform surgery tomorrow. Benjamin is expected to be out for six weeks but should be fit when Hamburg begin preparations for the new season and a probable UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign. The Namibian made 17 Bundesliga appearances for the club this season.
